We are proud of the success of our students and staff when it comes to academic progress, but we are always striving for more. We conduct end-of-term, weekly and standardized assessments to track the performance of our students and faculty. As part of this process we identified a group students struggling academically and others who were not performing to their capabilities. To address this issue, we implemented an after school study club.

The study club is open to all students but is especially geared to those who need additional support and encouragement. The club gives these students time to study and helps increase their confidence level by working with peers performing at a similar level. This also enables those students who do not have the support at home to get the help they need to keep up in class.

We’ve designed the club to be fun to make the students feel they are part of something special and important (as opposed to feeling different or bad because they are not able to work at home). We’ve also have used this club as a way to coach the parents and educate them on how important their role is in their children’s education. Even if they as parents can’t help with the work – it’s vital that they support and encourage the children to work hard, always making their best efforts to improve.

We know these children are facing many challenges and that the curriculum we are presenting it robust. However, we believe that every one of our students had the capacity to pass their courses if they have the support system in place. We hope this study club enables us as educators to gain more experience and devise more effective strategies to further deliver the holistic, high-quality education each of these children deserves.
