Getting in our Groove

We have several new pieces of exciting news to report so I will do it in installments.

First, our new nurse is AWESOME.  She is U.S. trained – an LVN from California – Haitian by birth and is bilingual. She is smart, competent and interested in documentation and collecting data. It is unusual to have access to a nurse with these skills in a rural community in Haiti.  Edly is collecting benchmark data on our students, conducting inventories, meeting with parents and educating our teaching staff.

With her help, we are providing exceptional academic support for our Choix students because we are addressing the nutritional needs of these children, right from the pre-K level. Their brain development will not suffer impairment from the nutritional detriments that they might otherwise suffer.  Of course, we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for nutritional supplements and can only give them to our kids most in need, as a result so, if you have access, we sure could use an assist!

Second, Mary (our school principal, you will meet her here shortly) will post more on this next topic from first-hand perspective this week; but our students will be the very first in Haiti to beta test the electronic math curriculum created by DesChamps Publishing on Tuesday.  We are proud to serve as a pilot school for this exciting venture.
